Im Getting Too Old For This

That title is something i've been hearing a lot lately from different people. Mainly from people in my own age group from their late 20s to early 30s. And for the life of me, I have no clue why people think that way. We've all heard that age is just a number, and I would agree that its true in most cases. Ok, sure when we age you may get a new wrinkle, or maybe certain parts of you may start to sag. However, this has nothing to do with your mind and who you are. Unless of course you want to get into stuff like an 80 year old person with alzheimer's, but thats not what im talking about here.

What I am talking about is the mindset that people put themselves into where they tell themselves their too old to do things they once liked. This mindset is usually brought on by what the masses think is acceptable. I really think this is stupid. Why can't people simply be an individual and not care what others think. Growing older should be about learning, and not caring what others think is acceptable. Im 30 years old, and many people that are in their 20s seem to think that when one hits 30, or 40, that they somehow need to change. I really see no reason why someone in their 40s should be any different from one in their 20s. Now of course I realize that people do change over time. They learn new things, and experience new things. Still, this does not mean that one has to change their personality all together, or give up things they enjoy.

In the end, if you like to do something that you don't feel comfortable doing because of your age, then just do it. Screw what others think. If you're having fun and no one else is getting hurt, then just do it. If people look at you weird, then let them look. If they think bad things about you, then let them think. You're only as old in your mind as you think you are, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. If getting older means dressing up in a suit and tie, taking everything serious and going along with the masses, then I say no. Maybe some people enjoy being a mindless drone, but I don't.
